Kitchen Remodeling by Michaelson & Messinger Insurance Specialists, LLC

Kitchens are where a house shows its age first. Michaelson & Messinger remodels kitchens across Hinsdale, the western suburbs, and Chicago, from a cabinet and counter refresh to a full gut with a new layout, new plumbing, new electrical, and a wall removed to open the room. Many of the kitchens in our project gallery were rebuilt after fires, and they are the kitchens the homeowners wanted, not the kitchens they had.

What a Kitchen Remodel Includes

  • Layout and design, including removing or moving walls for an open plan
  • Demolition and disposal
  • Plumbing and gas line changes for new sink, dishwasher, and range locations
  • Electrical: new circuits, under cabinet lighting, recessed lighting, and code required outlets
  • Cabinetry: stock, semi custom, or custom, with installation
  • Countertops in quartz, granite, marble, or solid surface
  • Tile backsplash, flooring, and paint
  • Appliance installation and hood venting
  • Village or city permit and inspections

Open Floor Plans

The most common request in the western suburbs is to open the kitchen to the dining and living areas. That usually means removing a load bearing wall and installing a beam. We do the structural work in house, pull the permit, and pass the inspection.

Kitchen Fires

Kitchens are where most house fires start. If your kitchen has burned, our adjusting team handles the claim and our crews rebuild, and the rebuild is the moment to change the layout. We price the insurance scope and the upgrades separately.

Written Contract and Warranty

Every kitchen is priced item by item in a written contract, built by our own crews, and covered by a written warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions: Kitchen Remodeling

Can you remove a load bearing wall to open the kitchen?

Yes. We do the structural work in house: engineering, beam sizing, temporary shoring, and the permit. Opening a kitchen to the family room is the most common request we get in the western suburbs.

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in the western suburbs?

A cabinet and counter refresh usually runs in the tens of thousands. A full gut with a new layout, plumbing, and electrical runs higher, depending on cabinetry and finishes. We price every item in a written proposal.

How long will I be without a kitchen?

Four to eight weeks for a full remodel. We set up a temporary kitchen area if you want one and order cabinets before demolition so the gap is as short as possible.

Do you do custom cabinets or stock?

Both. Stock and semi custom lines for most budgets, custom cabinetry when the layout or style calls for it.

Can you move the sink or the range?

Yes. Plumbing, gas, and venting changes are done in house and inspected by the village.

Do I need a permit for a kitchen remodel?

Yes, when plumbing, electrical, or structural work is involved, which is nearly every kitchen. We pull it and schedule the inspections.

Do you install the appliances?

Yes, including gas ranges, hoods vented to the exterior, dishwashers, and built in refrigerators.
